Target website problems

Ugh!  If you have attempted to view our registry on Target.com recently, you may have run into problems.  They have decided to update their entire website to look more "Google-like," which means that things are breaking left and right.  Thanks for your patience. 

Quick Shoutout: Rikshaw Design

As you all know, our playful baby name is "Rickshaw," after nothing in particular.  A few weeks ago David mentioned that he came across a business called "Rikshaw," and then I recently saw featured nursery sets again on SheKnows Pregnancy and Baby blog.

Baby Rickshaw hits the Big Apple at 27 weeks

We traveled to New York last week to celebrate my grandpa Bob's birthday, as well as to spend some time on the beach and with family.  This leaves only one planned trip before the the baby arrives!  We'll head up to the panhandle to be showered with well wishes toward the end of September. 

Sweet baby Rickshaw is measuring well according to the tape-on-the-belly technique, at 27 or 27.5 cm at 27 weeks.  She wiggles around pretty often and her heartbeat this morning was between 135 and 140. 

David and Linda visited a couple of weekends ago, and I found out that Nick arrived 12 days after his due date.  In addition, my mom said that in none of her 3 labors did her water break before the intense labor.  Good to know!  If these things run in the family, maybe they won't be such a surprise if either one happens to me. 

We have been so lucky to receive baby things from people giving them away, so thank you!  We have some really neat stuff like a booster seat, a stroller, boppy pillow, foam tiles, bottles, and much more.  If you'd like to see our thoughts on "baby stuff," please visit the Giving Page listed at the top right.

Recently I've started to notice kids more, and especially little girls, since one will be joining our family shortly.  To be honest, I've never been a "kid" person, but I do like kids.  And I think I really fall into the category of people who is fiercely devoted to their own things, for example: I don't love dogs, but I love my dog.  I have the feeling it will be the same with my kids.  I will like other kids, but I will love my own more.  That said, when I interact with other people's kids, sometimes I'm not sure what to say, or what to start with (though with little kids, animal noises seem to work great).  My sister came across a blog post written in response to an article by a published author, on a really great subject: "How to Talk to Little Girls." 

When you see a little girl, say, between the ages of 0 and 12, you might start the conversation by saying "Oh, what a pretty dress" (or shoes, hair, skirt, jewelry, etc).  I've done this myself, many times.  But if everyone who meets this little girl says things about her appearance and dress, what kind of message does that send?  It's interesting stuff to think about. 

I'm so excited to have a little girl, to share our lives, stories, music, ideas, and discoveries, no matter what she is wearing.
